Lee Oululani Plevney stretches the boundaries of what clay can do to capture the beauty of Maui. She seeks to reflect the wonder and mystery of the ocean and sea life surrounding Maui and the open spirit of aloha permeating the culture. Lee throws clay to create a vessel then moves to hand-building to transform the vessel into a unique story of the Hawaiian world. The glazes she develops capture the rich blues and greens of the island. Leeʻs first influence was her mother, a native Hawaiian, who approached life with an artistic flair. By 2007, Lee transitioned to full-time work in ceramics, sudying under Richard McCoy, Jim Valentine, Jeff Vick, David Camden, Tom Coleman, Robert Briscoe and Steven Hill.
