Acrylic Painter, Art by Tioni
Tioni Acain was born and raised in Maui. Her medium, acrylic for fine art painting, is inspired by people, places, and things to be thankful for. She finds comfort in capturing the beauty of landscapes and animals through her perspective. Once inspiration is found, paint is poured directly onto the canvas to get a natural movement of color. At the end of each piece, a hidden heart is tied into the painting to display her love for art. She was introduced to oil painting by Kirk Kurokawa and painted a cultural mural alongside Phil Sabado at The Ritz Carlton Maui, but continues to work only in acrylic paint. In 2019 while balancing a leadership role at corporate work, she won the 31st Lahaina Art Society annual poster contest with an acrylic painting, “West Maui Lahaina”, which became a limited edition 2020 poster. Within the next two years, she was promoted to Area Manager and was committed to developing upcoming successful leaders. However, she knew she still had more to offer through art.  On July 1, 2022, Tioni started her art business, saying goodbye to the corporate world four days later. The website was published on July 7 and she joined the Lahaina Art Society on the 16th. In 2022, She participated in 31 Lahaina Art Fairs, 3 Pop-Up Events (one of which was “Made in Maui” where Art By Tioni placed 1st for Best Tent), gained wholesale buyers including the Pacific Whale Foundation, and sold seven original paintings. She was off and running!  She credits Janet Sato, her high school teacher, for her artistic skills.
