Wayne Omura Is a self-taught Maui wood lathe artist. He began bowl turning in the early 1980’s. Norfolk Island Pine and Cook Pine are his favorite local woods to work with. Other sustainable harvested trees such as Koa, Milo, Pheasant, and Kamani are also used. No two pieces are alike. The natural grain pattern is featured in every hand-crafted bowl. My primary work is creating translucent bowls out of locally sourced Norfolk and Cook Pine wood. I have been turning bowls for over 40 years and still enjoy turning and creating pieces that someone will enjoy looking at. All made with aloha. Minimal care is needed; however occasional dry dusting with a soft cloth or buffing with a high-quality furniture wax will enhance the piece. Please avoid exposure to direct sunlight and moisture; these bowls are meant only for decorative use. Wayne’s work has been in many juried exhibits since 1989, such as Art Maui, Hawaiian Craftsman, Sho Chiku Bai, Hui No’eau and Hawaii State Foundations on Culture and the Arts Purchase award. He was recently featured in an article in Woodturning Magazine from the UK, and have had my work featured in the American Association of Woodturners and in the World of Woodturners (WOW website).
