My goal is to create portraits that evoke emotional response. Photography has an incredible power to communicate and tell a story within the frame of a landscape, seascape or underwater portrait. I hope the images I create inspire people to care for our oceans and natural resources, as well as celebrate the natural beauty of our world.

My career started at the bottom here in Maui, in the early 90’s, as my first photographs were created underwater. I worked as a scuba instructor and on my off days went diving with a camera. In the mid 90’s, my images won several international competitions and that enabled me to work as a Photo Pro and travel writer in Fiji, Palau, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Papua New Guinea, and Tonga. In 2012, I earned a Master of Photography Degree, and began teaching workshops and leading international photo tours.  I am very fortunate to have received more than 40 international awards.  Among the most recent was receiving Special Honors at the 2020 Art Maui juried competition. I have been featured in museums, published in books & magazines, and produced two short educational videos for children.
